The Oxford Fire Department is known for aggressive fire fighting and fire education. Through continuing education programs and the State Fire Academy, OFD stays abreast of new technology with new ways to make fire service more efficient and safe/
The department serves and protects approximately 19,000 Oxford residents and 18,000 students on the campus of the University of Mississippi. The Oxford Fire Department also provides auto extrication/ rescue for the 640 square miles of Lafayette County and is an integral part of the Mississippi Task Force System responding to natural and manmade disasters thought the state and region.
The department is composed of 58 shift personnel, on a three shift rotation that operates out of four stations. Currently, the Oxford Fire Department holds a “Class 4” fire rating with the state insurance rating bureau.
Volunteers will assist with special events, such as Fire Academy for Kids.
